Your household insurance policy will only cover the first $1000.00 of your jewelry. (Some companies have a $2500.00 limit.) This is what you get after you pay your deductible. The same type of limitations apply to cameras, computers, coin collections, artwork, furs, etc... Unless you have your jewelry scheduled, or have a PAF, or have a Floater, your household policy will not cover your total loss. Check with your insurance agent.

A Schedule is an itemized listing of all your jewelry. This is not part of the pre-printed insurance form. This form looks something like this. If you do not have one of these you are only covered for the first $1000.00 (Even if you lose $50,000.00 worth of jewelry.) For your insurance company to cover anything over $1000.00 you need to give them an up to date appraisal.

To obtain this type of insurance you must provide your insurance agent with an accurate appraisal. This is not a simple one line description (i.e. "One (1) .70 point diamond, eye clean, good color and make-$1000.00") that some people call an appraisal.

The key word is an ACCURATE appraisal. If the jewelry is going to be replaced you need an accurate detailed description of the jewelry. If you are going to receive replacement money you need an accurate up to date replacement value. At Kendall Gemological Services, Inc we are able to fulfill both of these requirements.
